🕊️ Open Letter: Against the Silence on the Root Cause

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

In a time when our global community seems to speak only in terms of fear, escalation, and arms buildup, one thing stands out painfully: the silence surrounding the root cause. The bombing raids, the targeted propaganda, and the systematic disinformation from the Kremlin—these are not merely part of the conflict, they are its origin. Yet, in many international statements, they are barely mentioned.

Instead, terms like “security interests,” “balance of power,” or “defense capabilities” dominate. We are arming ourselves, issuing warnings, and holding meetings. But we are not saying what needs to be said: that a sovereign state has been attacked. That the truth is being systematically undermined. That the perpetrators are dominating the narrative—not only militarily, but rhetorically.

This silence is not accidental—it is convenient. Because those who name the root cause must also take responsibility: for speaking clearly, for taking a stand, for facing the consequences. Without this responsibility, the international community remains a club of reactionaries, not a community of principle.

Meanwhile, in the occupied territories, a second wave of violence unfolds: homes of the murdered and displaced are seized, sold, and re-registered. Mines and farmland are handed over to new firms. This is not just military control—it is colonial appropriation. The intention was clear from the beginning: to erase, to replace, to profit.

And still, some cling to the Kremlin’s narrative: that Ukraine “attacked Donbas,” that NATO is waging a “proxy war.” These claims are not misunderstandings—they are deliberate distortions. There was no genocide in Donbas. There was no NATO invasion. There was a sovereign nation defending itself against a foreign aggressor.

Some say: Russia and the U.S.—they do what they want because they are powerful. I say: precisely because they are powerful, they must act responsibly. Power is not a license to lie, to kill, to colonize. It is a duty to uphold humanity.

If we continue to speak only of fear and weapons, but not of truth and justice, we will lose more than territory—we will lose our moral compass. This is the preface from my analytical book, what I have titled: what's wrong with the Kremlin?

I write this not to accuse, but to awaken. Because silence is not neutrality. It is complicity.
